tired of people never following through

I know I have no right to. They don’t owe me anything. They should do it how they want to, do it for their own fun, to the best of their abilities.

Maybe they got sick, maybe they got depressed, maybe they lost interest, or other stuff in life came up. It’s not that deep. Someone not finishing that game, that post, that zine, that degree or course, whatever other projects doesn’t meaningfully affect me. People should explore and try stuff.

But I guess, one part of me is still tired of seeing people greatly announce a new era, a new self, a new project, a new blog, a new series or whatever just for it to fizzle out 99% of the time.

It feels connected to how impatient I am, and the high standards I set for myself. It’s a projection of my own pressures onto others. I can’t help it, I do think less of someone after a while of witnessing them not ever follow through on anything. The more I see it online and witness how non-committed most people are to their new thing and plan, the less excited I am to hear it, and the less likely I am to keep an eye on it or support it. It feels like a waste of my time.

It made me realize that people actually continuously working on their project, their craft, whatever - are rare. Sticking to it despite it being hard, or generating no income or attention is rare. Staying at it even after the honeymoon phase of the interest is over is rare. Still doing it even after public interest has moved on or another thing is suddenly trendier is also rare. Most people tend to be pulled in different directions based on current public opinion, attention and money.

People are also too willing to invest into a new ideal identity instead of who they really are. That makes it hard to stick to things, because they are made with this ideal person in mind, not for the everyday self.
