smoker vent

I’m really tired of smokers. I think we’re too soft on you. I get that it’s an addiction and a way to socialize, a habit, a way to catch breaks at work. But I can’t stand it. Addiction? Why not chewing tobacco, nicotine chewing gum, nicotine patches? Why not grab a beverage with a straw to have something to hold and suck on as an alternative action? Why not take those breaks anyway and if anyone talks shit about it say it’s unfair that you’re expected to inhale harmful substances to be allowed a break? Grow a spine. Stand up for yourself and stop being a peer-pressured little doormat. You were weaned off of the bottle or your mum’s tit, so you can handle this. Saves you money, is good for your health, limits pollution and stops funding exploitation and normalization.

You think it’s not that bad, but no one is safe from your kind. Bus and tram stops are full of you, where the rest of us have to stand and wait. Stinky smokers sit next to me in public transport. Outside seating is full of your kind. Clouds of your smoke get swept across the park. Everyone has to walk through your smoke cloud to enter or exit the building. You walk past me or in front of me on the street and past my open apartment window. I sit on my balcony and my stupid ass smoker neighbor does, too.

Your cigarette butts and disposable vape pens are everywhere and you cough and spit everywhere. It’s disgusting. Oooh you think you look effortlessly cool and chic? Should we tell everyone? Should we throw a party? Should we invite the Marlboro Man?

You think you’re the exception, one of “the good ones”, but every smoker is like you. You trying to limit it doesn’t do shit for anyone involved. You can’t control the wind, the smell on your clothes, the ecological aspect and the sheer number of smokers everywhere. You’re thinking that’s just one little cigarette for a few minutes, but you’re the tenth smoker I had the displeasure to meet that day.
