everything sucks, let me have fun

I sometimes see people rightfully calling out some issues with something - like unethical practices of a company, or the shady, scammy past of an influencer, or the recent scandal of a band. And someone without fail will always comment something like "We get it, everything sucks, let me have fun and enjoy things!"

And I don't think you can have it both ways; you can't want to enjoy things while also being deeply uncomfortable by facts surrounding it.

You can either acknowledge that something is problematic and still own up to enjoying it and simply decide your own boundaries and whether you care or not, or you stop enjoying it. If you still want to have fun, you have to acknowledge it, think about it, and make a decision; does it bother you too much, or is this one you can overlook? And then you let people call shit out without immediately seeing it as an attempt to yuck your yum.

You being bothered is good, actually. It's your conscience, and you should listen to it instead of silencing the ones that move it.
